Garden Annexe

This bespoke, four-season garden annexe was designed to support independent living with practical, accessible day-to-day use. To create a cohesive finish across the property, we also refreshed the exterior of the main home and outbuildings — so everything feels considered, connected, and built to last.

The brief

Our customer needed additional accommodation for a family member with accessibility requirements, with a clear aim: maintain independence for as long as possible.

They also wanted the exterior of their family home refreshed, and for the design of the annexe to tie in visually with the main dwelling.

We worked closely with the customer during the design stage to ensure the final layout, access and finish met the brief completely.

Design priorities

From the outset, three priorities guided the build:

  • Accessible, independent living: step-free entry, easy movement, and practical day-to-day usability.
  • All-season comfort: glazing, heating and finishes chosen to make the space genuinely liveable year-round.
  • A cohesive finish: materials and detailing selected to complement the main house and outbuildings.

What we delivered

Exterior works

To ensure the annexe felt like part of the property, we matched the build quality and external detailing across the site — not just the new structure.

Key exterior elements included:

  • Upgraded exterior cladding to the annexe, plus cladding to the main dwelling, garage and sunroom for a consistent finish
  • Wheelchair-friendly access ramp designed for easy, safe entry
  • Bottom patio extending from the annexe to create usable outdoor space
  • Soft and hard landscaping, including a refreshed top patio area to complete the garden
  • Block paving to the front of the house and pathway for a clean, practical approach
  • Multiple, easy-access double doors for wider clear openings and better flow
  • Triple-glazed windows and doors for comfort and efficiency
  • Tiled roof and custom embellishments to suit the style of the home

Interior layout and comfort

Inside, the annexe was planned as a self-contained home: kitchenette, living area, WC/shower room and separate bedroom — with space, light and ease of use built in throughout.

  • The shower room/WC includes a large enclosed power shower, floor-standing vanity unit, and a skylight for natural light.
  • The kitchenette features shaker-style cabinetry, practical storage, and plenty of sockets for everyday convenience. A skylight and recessed LED downlights keep it bright from morning to evening.
  • Underfloor heating throughout, with independent room controls and timers, provides consistent warmth.
  • Engineered oak flooring offers a hard-wearing finish that continues through the main living area.
  • Mains water and drainage were installed, with hot water supplied via an electric water heater.

Why bespoke matters

Unlike many garden room providers, each of our builds is bespoke, using traditional building methods. We’ve been in construction for decades, and we build for longevity — not a quick install.

Every customer has specific needs, and we aim to accommodate those requirements while delivering a finished space that fits its environment and feels part of the property.
